About us

I am a native Atlantan, an artist and a huge animal lover. The desire to create my first paper bird came from my concept for an installation I built called Ceiling of Black Birds, which called for me to make hundreds of realistic paper birds (to view the image of "Ceiling of Black Birds," please visit www.dorothyoconnor.com). Having never created anything from cut paper before, I spent many months figuring out how to make a successful realistic little bird.  That was 5 years ago and I still have a fever for making birds. All of the beautiful hand made Japanese, Nepalese and Indian papers and endless combinations therein keep me inspired as well as the actual birds that I see on my walks every day.

Each bird is individually hand-made so your bird may differ slightly from it's picture. Since most of the paper is hand-made as well, there may be slight color shifts too (very slight). Both of these aspects make each bird one of a kind!

I also do commissions! If you would like me to create a particular bird or have a project in mind, please email me for details and pricing.
Thank you! Dorothy O'Connor
